Medical Records Technician (Certified)

This position is a Certified Medical Records Technician under the HIMS section of Health Administrative Service for the West Texas VA Health Care System, Big Spring, TX.
Incumbent is responsible for performing a quality review of patient care documents and assigning codes specific for the type of care provided.
Incumbent assigns codes to documented patient care encounters covering the full range of health care services.
Incumbent assigns codes from the current version of several coding systems to include the International Classification of Diseases - Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM), Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and HCPCS.
Incumbent adheres and interprets accepted coding practices, guidelines and conventions.
Conducts audits of codes abstracted for patient encounters.
Other duties as assigned.
This is a hybrid position.
The pay of hybrid positions is determined by a Professional Standard Board (PSB).
The board will determine the appropriate pay for any selection made for this position.
Therefore the grade levels and pay reflected on this announcement could greatly vary from the determination of the PSB.

However position may require work beyond this schedule and travel.

Physical Requirements:
Work is principally sedentary, however some slight physical effort maybe necessary.
Promotion Potential:
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
