Medical Record Technician (ROI)
This is a full time permanent position in the Health Information Management Section of Health Administration Service at the West Texas VA Health Care System, Big Spring, Texas.
The primary purpose of this position is to analyze for validity, process effectively and respond properly to all requests for release of information and protecting the integrity of the data which includes medico-legal, authorized representatives, physicians, attorneys, Federal and State agencies and all other authorized third parties under the authority provided by the Privacy Act of 1974 and the Health Insurance Portability and Acountability Action (HIPAA) of 1996.
The incumbent shall function as a technical assistant to Release of Information (ROI).
Incumbent ensures compliance with VHA Federal guidelines regarding confidentiality.
The incumbent monitors and controls the timeliness and accuracy of medical information to authorized requestors.
Incumbent processes and sorts daily requests.
Incumbent must verify appropriate authorizations that cover and include sensitive information.
Authorizations to release information must follow Federal and VHA guidelines.
Incumbent must make daily independent decisions based on acquired knowledge and ability to interpret various release of information consents.
Other duties as assigned.

This is a hybrid position.
Pay set for this position is determined by a Professional Standards Board (PSB) of peers.
The facility/HR can not pay set for this position.
Pay is determined by the PSB based on your experience.
Therefore pay at the full performance level GS-5 can not be guaranteed.

Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:

m.
to 4:
30 p.
m.
However, this position may require occasional work beyond this schedule.
Description of duties is maintained in a functional statement at the facility.
Physical Requirements:
Work is principally sedentary, however some slight physical effort may be necessary.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
